“Students Laptop Scheme 2025 — Government of India is distributing free laptops to all students. Register now on this link before the offer closes.”
Why this is our best read
It wears the costume of a welfare notice: “Government of India,” a clean scheme title, a fresh year, and a closing deadline — helped by the fact that real but narrow laptop schemes do exist in some states or categories.
PIB Fact Check, as reported by Asianet Newsable, debunked the viral “Students’ Laptop Scheme 2025” WhatsApp claim and said the Government of India has not announced any such scheme. PIB’s 2026 post and Newsonair’s report warn that the same free-laptop message pattern asks for personal details and is fake. There are real, narrow schemes such as Goa’s 2025 free laptop scheme for eligible SC/ST meritorious Class X students, but that is not a national offer to all students.
This forward turns a real need — students needing devices — into a too-broad entitlement: “all students” makes nearly every family feel eligible. The deadline does the conversion work: instead of asking “where is the official notification?”, the reader feels they might cost a student a laptop by waiting. Forwarding then feels like public service, not like spreading an unverified link.
Hope of receiving a costly educational benefit, plus the reassuring belief that the state is offering help directly to ordinary students.
Because the offer is framed as time-limited and broadly useful, forwarding feels like helping classmates, children, or relatives claim something before they miss out.
This version is fitter because it removes almost all eligibility friction: not one state, caste category, merit list, or course stream, but “all students.” The fresh year and closing-date pressure make it feel current, while real narrow laptop schemes give the fake national offer a plausibility halo.
Click the registration link and sign up before the supposed offer closes; in documented variants, this means sharing personal details.
Any surprise public-benefit offer that arrives as a chat link and asks you to register, share personal details, enter an OTP, or pay before a deadline is the scam shape. Real schemes live on official government domains and notices; they do not need a forwarded link to find beneficiaries.
Hypothetical sibling: “National Mothers Grant 2027 — every woman will receive ₹8,000, apply in the next 12 hours with Aadhaar and OTP on this link.” Different benefit, same tell: chat-link registration, deadline pressure, and personal-data capture instead of an official government source.
If this benefit is real, where is the official page that does not depend on a forwarded link?
This looks like a recycled free-laptop registration lure: the 2025 WhatsApp version was debunked by PIB, and a 2026 version asking for personal details was also flagged as fake.
The lure used a bureaucratic-sounding scheme name and eligibility tables to look like a real government explainer, helping it rank and circulate beyond WhatsApp.
The WhatsApp version added a large precise number of laptops and a registration website; the precision made the giveaway feel planned, while the site was flagged as phishing/malicious.
The claim settled into the national “Students’ Laptop Scheme 2025” form and was amplified on WhatsApp and YouTube; PIB said no such Government of India scheme existed.
The date was simply updated to 2026, preserving the same benefit and registration logic; PIB warned it asked recipients to share personal details.
The same 2026 mutation was still active enough for Newsonair to report the government’s warning, showing the year-swap kept the lure alive.
Four AI investigators tested the same evidence from different angles. They are not four sources, and their agreement does not decide what is true.
No national free-laptop scheme for all students.
PIB says the 'Students Laptop Scheme' is fake — no such scheme exists.
Recurring yearly phishing scam that updates dates to continuously harvest data.
No nationwide Students Laptop Scheme 2025
